The Story
Evergreen Memorial Park is a large memorial-park cemetery along Atlanta Highway on the west side of Athens, with well over thirteen thousand recorded interments. Among those buried here is Charley Trippi (1921-2022), the University of Georgia halfback who went on to star for the Chicago Cardinals and was elected to both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. The grounds are also the resting place of pitcher Alva 'Bobo' Holloman, remembered in baseball lore for throwing a no-hitter in his very first major-league start.
