The Story
Old Jowers Chapel Cemetery, also recorded as Knight Cemetery, is a longstanding rural burial ground in the northern part of Atkinson County near the Coffee County line. Over the years its congregation and graveyard ended up separated: the Jowers Chapel church stands about two miles away in Coffee County, roughly a mile north of the line, while the cemetery sits about a mile south of it in Atkinson County. Holding a little over a hundred marked graves off Georgia Highway 64, it reflects the scattered settlement pattern of the surrounding pine-woods country.
