The Story
Red Bluff Cemetery lies in the wooded country of southern Atkinson County, along Red Bluff Creek between the communities of Pearson and Cogdell, shaded by towering old oaks draped in Spanish moss beside its Primitive Baptist church. The surrounding land belonged to John Williams, an early settler who had moved his family from Liberty County and put down roots on the creek during the 1800s. Williams gave the ground for the church and burial yard just after the Civil War ended, and a number of his children and their descendants are buried here.
