Lockerly Arboretum

Lockerly Arboretum is a fifty-acre public garden in Milledgeville devoted to horticulture, education, and history, with cultivated plantings, walking trails, and a pond. It was founded in 1965 by industrialist E. J. Grassmann and today draws visitors for its diverse collections of trees and shrubs. The property's centerpiece is Rose Hill, a Greek Revival house built in 1852 by Daniel R. Tucker after an earlier 1839 home on the site was destroyed by fire; the estate took its name from the Cherokee roses that grew there. Rose Hill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017 as an intact example of Greek Revival architecture in Baldwin County and now serves as a house museum, classroom, and event space.
