GeorgiaThe Bartow History Museum in downtown Cartersville chronicles more than two centuries of life in Bartow County and northwest Georgia, from the era when the Cherokee were the region's primary inhabitants through pioneer settlement, the Civil War, and later industrial development. The institution grew out of a local preservation effort formerly known as the Etowah Historical Foundation and opened to the public in 1987, adopting its current name in 2009. In 2010 it moved into the Old Bartow County Courthouse, an Italianate red-brick structure built in 1869 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Exhibits let visitors step into re-created Cherokee and pioneer cabins and a one-room schoolhouse while exploring the county's layered past.
