The Story
Bethlehem Cemetery is a large rural burial ground set beside a Primitive Baptist church outside Nahunta, and with more than 800 recorded graves it is one of Brantley County's most established resting places. It is notable for preserving several traditional grave houses, small roofed shelters built over individual graves, a distinctive Southern folk-burial custom that has grown rare across Georgia. An old covered well and long-standing family plots reflect the churchyard's deep roots in the surrounding farming community.
