The cemetery is bound to a Baptist congregation constituted in July 1825, when members of the faith gathered in a small log schoolhouse on land belonging to Samuel Bellah. Four acres were purchased that October, and by July 1843 a portion had been fenced off to serve as the graveyard. It remains among the older church burial grounds in the southwestern reach of the county.
