The Story
Nathan Anderson established this cemetery on Lafayette Street in 1842, shortly after the removal of the Cherokee from northwest Georgia, on land he had received from his father, making it one of Ringgold's oldest burial grounds. Those interred here include early Catoosa County settlers, enslaved African Americans, Cherokee people, and Confederate soldiers, reflecting the mixed community of the antebellum and Civil War era. Over time the grounds grew to encompass several adjoining additions, and today the roughly one-and-a-half-acre historic core is maintained through a dedicated perpetual care trust.
