Bonaventure Cemetery

Bonaventure Cemetery occupies the grounds of the eighteenth-century Bonaventure Plantation on the Wilmington River, a few miles east of downtown Savannah. A private burial ground called Evergreen Cemetery was laid out on the site in 1846, and the City of Savannah purchased it in 1907, renaming it Bonaventure. Designed in the Victorian tradition with winding drives beneath live oaks and Spanish moss, the cemetery grew from roughly 60 acres to about 100 acres and gained worldwide fame through the book and film 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.'
