The Story
This burial ground outside Homerville, tied to a Southern Congregational Methodist Episcopal church community on Shiloh Road, is the resting place of Iris Faircloth Blitch (1912-1993). Blitch represented Georgia's Eighth District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1955 to 1963, serving four terms as one of the first women the state sent to Congress before poor health ended her career. Alongside her grave, the cemetery holds hundreds of memorials for families from this corner of Clinch County.
