Marietta Campground Cemetery sits across Roswell Road from the Marietta Camp Meeting ground, a Methodist revival site established in 1837 after a circuit rider recommended it and a 40-acre tract was purchased; a tabernacle was raised the following year. The camp meeting has hosted annual open-air summer revivals ever since, pausing only briefly around the Civil War, and it gradually became nondenominational as members of other churches joined in. The adjoining cemetery, where resident community members were offered burial lots at no charge, dates to about 1899 and was formally incorporated in 1983.
