Sardis Cemetery (Marietta)

Sardis Cemetery is tied to the historic Sardis Missionary Baptist Church and is one of the oldest African American burial grounds in Cobb County. In 2023 and 2024 the Cobb County Historic Preservation Commission identified it among a small group of historic African American cemeteries in need of documentation, and the county pursued grant funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation's African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund. That effort was intended to pay for archaeological surveys to define the cemetery's boundaries and locate unmarked graves that had been lost over time.
