The congregation formed because the Giles family had no nearby Primitive Baptist church to attend, and Live Oak Primitive Baptist Church opened its doors in 1887 and remained in use until 1992. Members of the founding family, including Elisha Hardy Giles, rest among roughly 340 graves.
