The Story
Andrews Chapel sits in the rural Roscoe community of Coweta County and was organized in 1840, its congregation naming the church for Methodist Bishop James O. Andrew, whose parents lived nearby and whose ownership of an enslaved person triggered the 1844 schism that split American Methodism into northern and southern branches. The present sanctuary dates to 1912, and its historic cemetery holds early Coweta County settlers along with Confederate and World War I veterans. A 2000 survey identified roughly 130 unmarked graves in addition to the marked burials, about half of them children.
