Lake Hills Memorial Garden was established in the late 1960s by George E. and Martha Getter, who first buried their son Robert W. Getter here in September 1967 on a hillside overlooking the valley and surrounding mountains. Afterward the couple built an adjoining lake and residential area, and in 1969 they opened the cemetery to the public. It wraps around the older Payne Cemetery, which crowns the hill above it, and today contains well over a thousand graves.
