Woodlands Garden of Decatur

Woodlands Garden is a seven-acre private nonprofit greenspace off Scott Boulevard in Decatur, preserved from the surrounding urban development of the Georgia Piedmont. The land was the home of Dr. Chester Morse and Eugenia Slack Morse, who settled there in 1946 when Scott Boulevard was still a dirt road and gradually assembled the wooded tract from an old farm site. In 2002 the couple arranged a permanent conservation of their home and grounds, turning down developer offers so future generations could enjoy the woodland. Today it is a 501(c)(3) organization functioning as a native-plant habitat with mature hardwoods, winding trails, and a stop on the American Camellia Trail.
