OLD Courthouse

The Old Courthouse in Douglasville houses the Douglas County Museum of History and Art in the county's former 1958 courthouse, one of the few surviving Georgia public buildings in the International Style of architecture. The site has held three earlier Douglas County courthouses, including an 1896 building that burned. When county government moved to a new courthouse in 1998, preservationists persuaded officials to save the modernist structure rather than sell it, and the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Inside, the museum presents rotating history and art exhibits, a Black education and history display, public archives, and eclectic private collections, and it hosts community performances.
