GeorgiaAutrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center spans roughly 46 acres of ravine forest in Johns Creek, Georgia, combining more than three miles of walking trails along a creek and rocky shoals with a restored collection of historic farm buildings. The preserve was created in 1987 when local activists Margaret Krueger and Judy Webb organized the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association to save the land, which included the remains of an old grist mill and dam, from development; naturalist and preserve-founder John Ripley Forbes lent support. In 2007 the property passed to the newly incorporated City of Johns Creek, with the association continuing to operate it. Its Heritage Village gathers 19th-century structures, including a general store, church, tenant farmhouse, and smokehouse, relocated from north Fulton, Gwinnett, and Forsyth counties, pairing natural and cultural history in one site.
