Established in 1884 as Atlanta outgrew the crowded Oakland Cemetery, Westview spreads across roughly 582 acres of ground that saw fighting during the Civil War Battle of Ezra Church, making it the largest civilian cemetery in the Southeast. More than 125,000 people are interred here, among them Coca-Cola founder Asa Candler, longtime mayor William B. Hartsfield, and 'Uncle Remus' author Joel Chandler Harris. Its 1943 stone Mausoleum and Chapel, filled with stained glass and religious paintings, remains one of the cemetery's landmark features.
