Battle of Gully Hole Creek

On July 7, 1742, Oglethorpe's Highlanders and rangers ambushed a Spanish advance party in dense woods near here, scattering them with heavy losses. This sharp little victory set the stage for the larger rout that afternoon at Bloody Marsh.
