The Story
Duluth Church Cemetery traces its origins to 1873, when a Methodist congregation opened the burial ground at the south end of town. After a Baptist congregation built its own church nearby in 1886, the two denominations divided the grounds, with Methodists laid to rest in the northern half and Baptists in the southern. The former Methodist church property later passed to a Masonic lodge and was eventually acquired by the City of Duluth, whose city hall now occupies the spot where the original church once stood.
