The Story
This Gwinnett County burial ground on Old Norcross Road grew out of a congregation once known as Mt. Vernon Baptist, whose graveyard was later called New Hope Christian Cemetery before taking its present name from the surrounding Oakland community. Several hundred plots hold multiple generations of Gwinnett County families, making it a record of the area's rural settlement near Lawrenceville. The cemetery sits across from New Hope Christian Church and beside the old Baptist church building from which it descends.
