The Story
Ebenezer United Methodist Church and its adjoining graveyard sit in the Hollywood community of Habersham County along the old Unicoi Turnpike, an early road later folded into Old U.S. 441. In pioneer days this was one of the main paths through the north Georgia mountains, carrying travelers between the Tugaloo settlement near Toccoa and the Unicoi area near present-day Helen before continuing on toward Fort Loudoun in Tennessee. The church stood near the summer home of Joseph Habersham, for whom the county is named, and would have been a familiar stop for the farmers, merchants, and other settlers who lived and traded along the turnpike.
