GeorgiaElachee Nature Science Center is an environmental education organization set within the roughly 1,440-acre Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve in Gainesville, Georgia. Incorporated as a nonprofit in 1978, it takes its name from a Cherokee word meaning "new green earth"; it launched its school programs in 1986 and opened its public science center in 1990. The preserve grew from land once tied to the Chicopee Mills, part of a watershed donated by the Johnson family through Johnson & Johnson to create a public park in the late 1970s.
