Gen. Joseph Lewis's Kentucky 'Orphan Brigade', so called because secession failed in their home state, leaving them no Confederacy to return to, made a stand here on Nov. 15, 1864, briefly checking Sherman's advancing right wing before withdrawing to Lovejoy Station.
