The Story
Set beside the historic Midway Church in the old Midway settlement, this is one of the oldest burial grounds in Liberty County's coastal district. Many of its earliest graves were once identified only with wooden markers that have long since decayed, leaving parts of the grounds unmarked today. Records note that the last formally sanctioned burial took place in 1956, when a 98-year-old woman from one of the community's long-established families was laid to rest. More than six hundred interments are documented here, among them several figures of regional note.
