GeorgiaThe Valdosta State University Planetarium is a teaching and public-outreach facility on the third floor of Nevins Hall on the Valdosta campus. It first opened in the late 1960s, part of a wave of planetarium construction across Georgia spurred by National Science Foundation funding, with shows staffed by students under faculty direction. The planetarium underwent extensive renovation in the summer of 2011 and now uses a Digitarium Kappa digital projector capable of reproducing the sky as seen from anywhere on Earth or from other objects in the solar system, at any point in time. It supports Valdosta State's astronomy program, one of only a few in Georgia offering an undergraduate astronomy degree, and presents public shows on topics ranging from the dawn of the space age to the Hubble Space Telescope.
