Waggoner Grove Cemetery

This site is really three adjoining burial grounds that have merged over the years into what looks like a single cemetery. Alongside the Waggoners Grove Baptist Church cemetery lie two Hitchcock plots: one holding the white Hitchcock family descended from Ranford Ellis and Martha Sims Hitchcock, and an adjacent ground that began before the Civil War as a burial place for people the Hitchcocks enslaved. Waggoners Grove started as a Black congregation and in later years became a shared Black and white church, with burials still taking place today. The grounds sit off Waggoner's Grove Church Road, surrounded by commercial timberland near Colbert.
