Wrightsboro Church Cemetery

The cemetery surrounds the Wrightsboro Methodist Church, which stands on a rise overlooking the site where Edmund Gray established a Quaker settlement in 1754, in the colonial community once known as Brandon and later Wrightsboro. Local tradition holds that two earlier meeting houses were built and lost to fire before the present church was raised between roughly 1810 and 1812, funded through public subscription. Among those buried here are forebears of prominent Georgia families, including ancestors of Asa G. Candler, the Coca-Cola magnate who served as Atlanta's mayor. An older Quaker burial ground marked only by rough fieldstones lies about a mile to the east.
