The Morgan County African-American Museum in Madison is dedicated to researching, collecting, and preserving the history, art, and culture of African Americans in the region. Established as a nonprofit in November 1993, it is housed in a historic frame dwelling built around 1900 by John Wesley Moore, a man born in the final years of slavery, on farmland where he lived as a tenant. The house was relocated to 156 Academy Street in 1989 and donated for use as the museum. Its exhibits interpret local Black history through artifacts, artwork, and the story of the building itself, anchoring Madison's African American heritage trail.
