The Story
Pine Grove Cemetery sits at the corner of Church and Grove Streets in downtown Eatonton and is one of the town's principal historic burying grounds, holding more than 2,400 documented graves. Among those interred here is Thomas Graves Lawson (1835-1912), a Mercer-educated attorney who went on to represent Georgia in the United States Congress. Generations of burials, including dozens of unmarked and weathered stones, make the grounds a lasting record of Eatonton's 19th- and early-20th-century community.
