The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, and the nearby Old Quitman County Jail of 1891 was separately listed in 1981. The building anchors the Georgetown square in one of Georgia's smallest and least-populous counties, hard against the Chattahoochee River and the Alabama line.
