The Story
Westover Memorial Park is a large twentieth-century cemetery on Wheeler Road in Augusta, notable for housing what was the city's first community mausoleum, built with a marble interior. It is the final resting place of a number of prominent figures, including internationally acclaimed opera singer Jessye Norman and World War II Medal of Honor recipient Aquilla James Dyess. Also interred here are U.S. Congressmen Doug Barnard Jr. and Charlie Norwood, along with professional golfer Jim Dent.
