Oak Hill Cemetery is one of Griffin's principal historic burying grounds, holding more than 18,000 recorded interments, with its older sections still remembered as 'Old Oak Hill.' The grounds shelter an unusually distinguished roster of Georgia figures, among them Governor James Stoddard Boynton and four men who served in the U.S. Congress: David Jackson Bailey, Erasmus Williams Beck, John David Stewart, and John James Flynt Jr. Also at rest here are Confederate naval officer John McIntosh Kell and Civil War Medal of Honor recipient William Marland. The cemetery lies on Memorial Drive beside the town's Stonewall Confederate Cemetery.
