The Story
A.H. Stephens State Historic Park in Crawfordville, Taliaferro County, is named for Alexander H. Stephens, vice president of the Confederacy and later governor of Georgia, and preserves his home, Liberty Hall. Stephens rebuilt the house in 1875 on the site of an earlier residence he had purchased in 1845, and lived there until his death in 1883. The property was donated to the state in 1932 and includes a Civil War museum with an extensive collection of artifacts; Liberty Hall was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1983.
