Named for the Georgia signer of the U.S. Constitution who became the University of Georgia's first president, ABAC opened in 1908 as the Second District A&M School and grew into Georgia's flagship two- and four-year agricultural college. Its tree-shaded, pecan-lined grounds double as an open-air classroom, and just south of campus sits the state's official living-history farm museum. This walk runs the ag-science core, the historic original halls, and ends at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture.

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College traces its origins to 1908, when it opened in Tifton as the Second District Agricultural and Mechanical School on land donated by Captain Tift. The school was renamed South Georgia A&M College in the mid-1920s and Georgia State College for Men in 1929 before taking its present name in 1933, when it joined the newly formed University System of Georgia. It is named for Abraham Baldwin, a Georgia signer of the U.S. Constitution and the first president of the University of Georgia. Today ABAC offers associate and bachelor's degrees, is known for its agriculture and natural-resources programs, and is home to the Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village.
