The Story
Oak Ridge Cemetery is Tifton's principal municipal burial ground and one of the largest cemeteries in Tift County, holding well over 11,000 recorded interments that reach back to the community's early decades. Among those laid to rest here is Harold Bascom "Pinky" Durham Jr. (1942-1967), a U.S. Army artillery officer killed in action in Vietnam who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his valor. Generations of local families are buried across its grounds, making it a central resting place for the Tifton area.
