Covenant College was founded in 1955 in Pasadena, California, relocating first to St. Louis and then, in 1964, to the summit of Lookout Mountain in Georgia. Its signature building, Carter Hall, opened in 1928 as the luxurious Lookout Mountain Hotel, nicknamed the "Castle in the Clouds," before the Great Depression forced it to close for good in 1960. A liberal arts college of the Presbyterian Church in America, Covenant teaches from a Reformed Christian perspective, and its athletic teams are known as the Scots.
