Born enslaved in Virginia about 1820, Mark Thrash worked for the Chickamauga park as a laborer and storyteller from 1894 into the 1920s. 'Uncle Mark' delighted visitors with recollections reaching back generations; he died in 1943, reputedly over a century old.
