In 1889 thousands of Union and Confederate veterans gathered on the Chickamauga field as reunited countrymen for a 'Blue and Gray' reunion. From that spirit of reconciliation grew Chickamauga-Chattanooga, dedicated in 1895 as America's first national military park.
