West Hill Cemetery

West Hill Cemetery is the historic public burial ground of Dalton, laid out along West Emery Street. Its most striking feature is a Confederate section watched over by a soldier's monument, where more than four hundred unknown Confederate dead rest alongside a few identified Confederates and several unidentified Federal soldiers. Many of these men were casualties treated in the Confederate hospitals that operated in Dalton during 1862 through 1864, or died of wounds received in nearby Civil War campaigns.
