Newnan became a place where sick and wounded Confederate soldiers were sent by the thousands during the Civil War. Later it became a courthouse-square town that Hollywood likes to borrow. This drive begins at the cemetery where the hospital dead were buried, then visits a local history center, the courthouse square, the district of old houses called the City of Homes, and finally the battlefield south of town. No hospital building from the war has been confirmed to survive, so the tour does not claim one.
Newnan: City of Homes, City of Hospitals is a self-guided driving tour of Newnan, built around its civilwar side.
The walk covers 5 stops over about 6.4 miles and roughly 2 hours 10 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
