From November 15 to December 21, 1864, Major General William T. Sherman cut his 62,000-man army loose from its supply lines and marched southeast across Georgia, living off the land and destroying anything of military value. This driving trail follows that campaign west to east, chronologically, from the burning of Atlanta to the surrender of Savannah, tracing eleven of its most powerful and visitable sites.
Sherman's March to the Sea is a self-guided driving tour of Statewide (Atlanta to Savannah), built around its civilwar side.
The walk covers 11 stops over about 275.0 miles and roughly 11 hours, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
