Completed in 1928 to a Neoclassical Revival design by the prolific Atlanta courthouse architect A. Ten Eyck Brown, the building was faced in locally quarried Georgia marble and served as the seat of county justice until 1994. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. When the new Cherokee County Justice Center opened in 1994, the courts moved out and the 1928 building was rehabilitated for county offices and the local historical society. It endures today as one of North Georgia's handsomest surviving marble courthouses.
