The Story
River View Cemetery, also recorded as Riverview Cemetery, is one of Canton's oldest burial grounds, established around 1844 on North Street in the heart of downtown just behind the former county courthouse. Its central location made it a resting place for many of the city's early families as Canton grew through the nineteenth century, and the historic grounds now hold well over a thousand marked graves. Among the burials are a pair of figures notable enough to be highlighted as local notables, adding to the site's standing as a landmark of Cherokee County history.
