The Battle of Kolb's Farm was fought on June 22, 1864, during the Atlanta Campaign of the Civil War, when Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood launched an unauthorized assault against the Union corps of Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker and Maj. Gen. John Schofield southwest of Kennesaw Mountain. The attack broke apart under Union artillery and rifle fire, costing Hood roughly 1,000 casualties against fewer than 300 Federal losses and temporarily halting Sherman's flanking move. The 1830s farmhouse of Peter Valentine Kolb, restored to its wartime appearance, survives within Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park as the only remaining period structure on the field.
