Chartered in 1906 as the Eleventh District Agricultural & Mechanical School, this Douglas campus opened in 1907 and grew into Georgia's first state-supported junior college. Ten buildings from 1907 to 1958 form the Eleventh District A&M School–South Georgia College Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010. This walk visits its original 1907 core and early landmarks.

South Georgia State College began in 1906, when the Georgia legislature's Perry Act created an agricultural and mechanical school in each congressional district; Douglas secured the Eleventh District school after its residents raised $55,000 in cash and donated 30 acres of land. In 1927 it became Georgia's first state-supported two-year college. The present college was formed in 2013 through the consolidation of South Georgia College in Douglas with Waycross College, and one of its original 1907 buildings, Davis Hall, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
