Rock Spring Cemetery in Atlanta's Piedmont Heights neighborhood dates to around 1870, when Daniel Liddell Plaster deeded the land, and it holds the graves of several of the city's pioneer families, including the Plasters, Liddells, Cheshires, and Pharrs. Its earliest marked burials are those of James Washington Smith, Sr., and Foster Luckie, both interred about 1874. Family members tended the grounds for nearly a century until the nonprofit Rock Spring Cemetery Association took over its care in 1960.
