The College of Coastal Georgia traces its roots to Brunswick College, established by the University System of Georgia's Board of Regents in 1961 and opened to students in 1964 after Brunswick and Glynn County citizens backed a $1 million bond issue for land and buildings. Known for years as Brunswick Junior College and later Coastal Georgia Community College, the Brunswick school began converting from a two-year into a four-year institution in 2008 and took its current name. It conferred its first baccalaureate degrees on May 7, 2011.
