The Tour
One of Georgia's youngest state colleges, Coastal Georgia opened in 1964 as Brunswick College, spent decades as a two-year college, and conferred its first bachelor's degrees in 2011. Its compact 193-acre campus is laid out as a walkable pedestrian mall running north–south, shaded by moss-draped coastal oaks near the Golden Isles marshes. This stroll traces that spine from the south entrance to the campus's northern edge.
College of Coastal Georgia Campus Tour is a self-guided walking tour of Brunswick, built around its campus side.
The walk covers 6 stops over about 0.7 miles and roughly 1 hour 10 min, entirely at your own pace. Each stop's story unlocks on your phone the moment you arrive — GPS-triggered, hands-free, no guide and no tour group to keep up with.
What you'll see
Coastal Georgia's campus is young by college standards, and this short walk shows how a 1960s junior college grew into a four-year school without losing its easygoing coastal feel. The buildings line a pedestrian spine shaded by live oaks, Spanish moss and palms, so the whole walk feels more like a stroll through a park than a march across a quad.
You'll see the library at the academic core, a science building joined to a newer teacher-education center, and a small memorial bell that has become a campus landmark. Nearby stands a Mediterranean-style campus center with arched walkways, built in 2011 as the college added dorms and bachelor's degrees. Along the way the app explains the town-and-gown partnership that created the college: local voters paid for its first buildings in the early 1960s. It also covers the Golden Isles history, from the 1920s resort builders onward, reflected in the building names at the north end of campus.
The route is only about 0.7 miles and fully walkable, so it's an easy add-on to a trip to St. Simons or Jekyll Island. Mornings are cooler and quieter, especially in summer, and weekday afternoons show the campus at its busiest. The Georgia Roam app plays each stop's story as you arrive.
